The Lakewood High School Alumni Association (LHSAA) desires to keep you in the “loop” on the LHS activities happening in 2016! The events of which we are aware (picnic, reunions, gatherings) are included in the Lancer Loop Newsletter, which is published periodically throughout the year. Feel free to forward this information to those interested.  

 

The very best way to stay informed is to access the LHSAA website which is located at http://lakewoodalum.org. We will have the website updated with current information very soon! Meanwhile, please use the links and contacts from this issue of the Lancer Loop Newsletter for your information and inquiries.

Although this is not “officially” part of our picnic weekend, it’s another opportunity to get together. If you’re in town for picnic weekend, you may want to attend the Lakewood community's extremely popular summer concert series. Concert starts at 6:30 pm. Dinner and refreshments will be sold, or attendees may bring their own picnic basket. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged. Pets, barbecues and alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

The 17th Annual All-Alumni Picnic

This is a celebration for all LHS alumni classes (1958 – current) which is held annually on the 2nd Sunday in July. Students, family, and friends are all encouraged to attend to reunite and reminisce with other alumni. Pack your own lunch or purchase onsite from the Lakewood High School Activities Department. It’s so much more than a picnic!

·        Memory Lane

o       Memorabilia from our years at LHS will be displayed in the Canteen

·        Fallen Lancer Memorial

o       Memorial Exhibits will be displayed to honor “Fallen Lancers” is located in the Canteen 

o       If you know of a recent loss, and/or would like to honor a “Fallen Lancer” with an exhibit, please contact Margie Smuck, margiesmuck@yahoo.com

·        Classic Car & Motorcycle Show

o       If you have a Classic Car or motorcycle you’d like to include in the show, please contact Jim Pilgram, jim.pilgram@gmail.com to reserve your spot. Include a photo with your reservation request.

o       Only pre-arranged cars/motorcycles will be allowed to park in the designated area. Sorry, no exceptions. You must have a reservation.

o       Arrive early… must have your car/bike there between 8:00 am – 9:45 am.

o       Coned area for the show is on the north side of the Canteen on Arbor Road.

·        Drawings & Raffles (LHSAA Picnic Committee)

o       50/50 Drawing: Buy tickets from the LHSAA Picnic Committee for your chance to win ½ the money collected

o       Gift Baskets: Items for the baskets are donated by our local businesses.

o       All monies raised in these efforts will be used for next year’s “All Alumni Picnic”

·        Activities Department (Lakewood High School)

o       Meals, drinks, and desserts will be available for purchase at the picnic in the Canteen patio area.

o       LHS logo items: Wearable and miscellaneous LHS logo items are sold in both the park and the Canteen patio area

o       Please show your Lancer Pride by supporting the students representing the Lakewood High School Activities Department.  

o       Individuals and outside businesses are not allowed to sell their merchandise at this event.

o       Using this event to solicit funds for any private cause is not permitted.

·        Lakewood Veteran’s Memorial Plaza

o       Visit the newly refurbished plaza that was dedicated on May 25, 2015

o       Our beloved airplane (Douglas F-3D2 jet fighter) has been completely refurbished and continues to be the centerpiece of the new plaza

o       Insignias from all branches of the military are displayed

o       Read the names of the Veterans on the bricks surrounding the plaza

o       Read the poem “The Boys of Del Valle Park” written by ’66 grad, Dennis Lander.

o       Visit http://www.lakewoodcity.org to view the coverage of the dedication ceremony and construction of the new Memorial Plaza

·        Designate your area

o       Feel free to make a sign to designate an area for your class/club

o       Please DO NOT set up tables, chairs, and signs in the designated areas reserved for LHSAA Registration and Activities Department activities

·        Picnic Group Photo

o       Meet us at the airplane at 1:00 on the day of the picnic for a group photo

o       This photo will be featured on the Lakewood City Website http://lakewoodcity.org  as well as our alumni website  http://lakewoodalum.org/

·        Picnic Committee

o       If you are interested in serving on the Lakewood High School Alumni Association (LHSAA) to plan next year’s Alumni Picnic, please let us know at the registration table at the picnic.

·        Parking

o       Please park your vehicles on the city streets surrounding the park

o       Additional parking will be allowed (after 12:00 pm) at St. Timothy’s Church on the southwest corner of Arbor and Woodruff

o       Parking is the coned area on Arbor Road is reserved for those who have pre-registered for the Classic Car & Motorcycle Show only

o       Please help us retain this venue for the coming years by respecting the rules of Del Valle park
